Prepare to be amazed …
The days of cold calling are over!
(when did you last sell with a cold call?)
The days of mass email marketing are over
(people are bored with the same old stuff)
The days of boilerplate text are over
(to get noticed, you have to create impact)
It’s time to do things differently.
It’s time to get personal.
It’s time to value your targets and prospects a little more and there’s lots of ways to do that. It’s more time consuming, it’s takes a lot more effort, however the results you will get are worth it.
Personalized URL marketing is a technique we’ve been using for around 8 years to get our online and services businesses noticed by our targets. Because of the power of this system, our clients asked to use the service, and so Targets to Prospects was born.
In your inbox right now you’ve possibly got dozens, hundreds or even 1000′s of messages. Chances are you’ve looked at most of them and some of them will contain sales pitches from companies you’ve never heard of before using the same old tired methods to grab your attention most of them using corporate boilerplate and directing you to a website.
Some of them might be interesting, however they’re sat there because they didn’t particularly wow you and you’ve not got round to deleting them.
This is lazy marketing. Very lazy in fact.
Personalized URL marketing implemented correctly, does things differently. The technique treats a target with a little more respect for their time.
Our tried and tested approach has got results for 8 years …
1) Identify your target
Be clear on the individual you are targeting with your service. Spend 10 minutes researching them. See if you can find an article by them or about them – a presentation or press release they may have created and use that as a hook to start a conversation.
It’s then time to drop them a line…
2) Start your email
Write a two or three line email referencing the fact you know something about them. You will already be ahead of 95% of the crowd.
(This is a great subject line, which gets emails opened – it has a double meaning. People think that you are potentially referring someone to them, whereas you’re introducing yourself.)
Dear Steve,
I noticed the presentation you gave last month at the widget institute and showed it to a couple of colleagues here at Widgets Inc. I really wanted to thank you for the suggestions you made – we’re presenting to our board next week on some of the new initiatives we’re going to make because of your thinking and thought you should know.
3) And now for the magic
Lazy marketing: Visit our website for details of what we do at www.widgetsinc.com
Instead, create a personalized URL – which is a landing page with their name on it!
Smart marketing:
We thought you might be interested to see what we’re doing in this area and have prepared a short 2 minute video for you at the link below:

Take a look when you’ve a moment and let us know what you think to our suggestions.
Kind regards,
Tony
4) Send your email
With your footer – not from an automated bulk mailing system. Keep it personal!
5) Be notified when the click comes
The clickthrough rates for Personalized URL marketing are truly amazing.
People click because they are naturally curious/vain/interested and most of all surprised you’ve gone to such effort.
They also typically respond well to the sort of email wrapper we’ve described above.
6) Follow up
That should be business as usual from there.
